“Enjoy your day. Enjoy your friendships. Enjoy your meditation. Rejoicing is the antidote for self-pity, envy and jealousy.” — Zasep Rinpoche

Most Buddhist practice — and Buddhist living — can be distilled down to the concept of “antidotes.” When our gurus give us teachings, it’s almost always in the form of an “antidote.” One of the most memorable descriptions of one of these antidotes came in a teaching by H.E. Zasep Rinpoche. The antidote to envy and jealousy, one of the great poisons described by Buddha, is a simple formula, but a profound one. Rinpoche advised: “It’s important to rejoice,” said Venerable Zasep Tulku Rinpoche at a weekend Lam Rim and Green Tara retreat in Toronto. “It’s important to be positive.…

Black Mahakala: when you practice this wrathful form of Chenrezig you “feel protected”

Black Mahakala is the wrathful Enlightened protector emanation of Chenrezig — Avalokiteshvara, the Compassionate Buddha. Just as any father might demonstrate wrath and fierceness to protect his children, Chenrezig appears as the ferocious six-armed “Great Black” Mahakala. [On July 23, 2019, Venerable Zasep Rinpoche will offer Six-Armed Mahakala empowerment. Details on event page>>] H.E. Venerable Zasep Rinpoche explains wrathful deities: “When you do wrathful deity practice, you… It gives you energy. You feel like “I am strong” and “I am protected.” But before you do wrathful practice, you start with lower tantras, the peaceful deities. And, every time you do…

Happy Birthday H.E. Zasep Rinpoche!

We wish Venerable Zasep Tulku Rinpoche a very happy birthday — and many more: “May the pure white light of your peerless wisdom shine undiminished until the end of existence.” This is a quote from the long-life prayer to Zasep Rinpoche composed by the illustrious Kyabje Trijang RInpoche at the request of Ponpo Nawang Losang.  [Adapted, with permission, from a feature on Buddha Weekly.] Immortal Rain The Long Life Prayer of Venerable Zasep Tulku By Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche     “Wisdom of all the Buddhas, Eternal adamantine nature, Clad in the three maroon robes and displaying the marks of perfection,…

Video advice on the loss of a loved one and bereavement from H.E. Zasep Tulku Rinpoche

“What advice would you give for a student who is dealing with the loss of a loved one?” — question from a student ADVICE FROM THE BUDDHIST TEACHERS/ Questions from the Students Advice from Venerable Acharya: ZASEP TULKU RINPOCHE. Part 2 in a 10 Part Series

Chod Practice: Ultimate Bodhichitta “Cuts your attachments”

The vivid and visceral imagery of Chod Practice — where you visualize offering your own body to all sentient beings, chopped up into grisly bits, and presented in a human skull — can lead to extreme misunderstanding. Teachings such as Chod are advanced and profoundly effective practices that help us “cut” our ego, tame our internal “demons” and develop genuine bodhichitta for all beings. But, the need for explanation and teacher guidance is critical. The hypnotic beat of Chod drums and bells, and the careful chanting of melodious but mysterious chants at first seem provocative, and beautiful. Then, when the…
